The Simpson Desert The Oodnadatta Track and Dalhousie Springs |
|
Crossing the Simpson had been a trip we had spent months preparing. After a great deal of research and planning we finally headed north in July 2004. Rainfall earlier in the year was a concern, but the roads had recently opened and the wet conditions had transformed the desert into a garden of wildflowers. Leaving Adelaide early in the morning allowed us to travel to Marree for the first night, and then we turned towards the west to follow the Oodnadatta Track up to Hamilton. Near Hamilton we chose to take the road through Pedirka and passed the Dalhousie homestead ruins. A couple of nights at Dalhousie Springs preceded the Simpson Desert crossing. Once we had made it to Birdsville, it was time to head south again down the Birdsville Track. Please choose a region from the list below. Each section has a brief description of our journey including some photographs. If you would like to view more photos, please choose the Photo Gallery.
